As a retired teacher higher education is still one of the subjects that interests me the most. Nobody can take the knowledge that you have acquired from you, so never stop learning.
I discovered one of the universities has taken this to Second Life and is teaching the virtual world hands-on.
If you are already in Second Life you might as well get credit for some courses along the way. I saw this exhibit at the SL20B. One of the courses they are offering is:
OILS506 - Exploring Virtual Worlds and Virtual Reality in Online Learning Environments: This course is an introduction to Virtual Worlds and Virtual Reality, exploring the research and current use. We will explore and practice advanced interactive technologies to build communities of learning for education and training.
Way to go UNM for offering this course. I believe that is where the future is going and being in the virtual reality is most definitely the way to learn.
I remember a few years back working on some projects with the University of Hong Kong and helping English learners with an introduction to English Literature. I also worked on:
"Simulations of School Bullying
Written, produced, and directed by Brant.Knutzen.se for the Education University of Hong Kong, Early Childhood Education dept, researchers Prof Elizabeth Jones and Dr. Richard Wong" filmed in Second Life.

Another project was a short film on virtual romance in Kowloon City...I learned a lot about this city and it was fun being part of it.
