I'm still haunted by the memories

When I say haunted it does not mean bad, I love hauntings in a way. This is one of the reasons I love to re-read my blog because I find fond memories of people and places here in Second Life.

The photographs I take capture the moments of my different moods and emotions. I know people say to forget about the past and move on, but I believe differently. I believe the past is a valuable tool to remind us that even in Second Life we are still human.

I have been here almost 10 years in Second Life and learned a lot. Moments may last a few seconds or minutes but the memories last a lifetime. People who know me in real life hear me often speak about Second Life with a smile on my face.

I used photographs taken in Second Life on my google slides and presentations. All these memories are good and keep me going.

Wind of the summer afternoon,
Hush, for my heart, is out of tune!
Hush, for thou movest restlessly
The too light sleeper, Memory!
Whate'er thou hast to tell me, yet
'Twere something sweeter to forget,—
Sweeter than all thy breath of balm
An hour of unremembering calm!
by Sir Charles George Douglas Roberts

I can spend a Sunday afternoon with friends doing nothing other than reminiscing
about the past or talk about the people we know. (I think it is gossiping?) Thinking of childhoods past and lovers went and yet the sun shines bright or the stars twinkle just the same here in this world of awe.

Time stands still when you dream
You fly over rivers it may seem.
So each night take the time
To dream and fly mountain's climb.

Never regret the time that's gone
It never comes back to anyone.
Look forward to the hours you share
With friends and family everywhere. by Anjelikka

So, keep the hauntings coming because I love to re-dream the good dreams while spending a boring Sunday afternoon that now is turned into a memory to cherish on a cloudy day. Add some music to set the mood and you really have something special.

I really don't have any time for bad feelings anymore and as I get older I understand that even more. Stay calm and enjoy the moments you have and make them good ones that you can remember later when you need them the most. Put the light into your heart
keep your soul clean from sour tart, that may mess up your mind don't ever stop from being kind. The truth is life, a battle you win when you fight for what you believe in. Be honest to yourself and even your foe then the enchantment of life will grow.

Embrace Reality! I have Writer's Block!

I have been at a painless writer's block for the past few weeks, well actually for July. Real Life has me working to teach what was missed for the entire school year and the weather has been so hot that all I can think about is to escape to my Retreat in Second Life.

I appreciate the variety of visitors that come here and I am in awe that they find this place.

I have been evaluating why I am not writing as much a little deeper as well. As a writer I struggle with being afraid, with putting my ideas (and myself) out there for everyone to see and critique. Fear is a major reason some writers never become writers.

I have been often told to write down many of the real experiences I had with teaching and with the virtual worlds. Writing about life is so personal and sometimes I feel vulnerable to expose my wants and needs to the world.

Honestly, I do not consider myself a writer, even so, I wrote many many poems and short stories and of course this blog. I always wanted to be known as an artist, someone who is creative. I am grateful to the people who continue coming here and to the Basement Club. There are some new DJs that bring more of their styles to the music we play here, so don't hesitate to stop by and listen in M-F starting on most nights at 6PM SLT.

I will think of some new ideas on what to write soon. I see some summer vacation coming my way.

Oh, BTW please see this article about Grum in the Focus Magazine for Second Life. I think that is great he got recognized. He may not think I did not notice, but I did. Great Job!

Why I am attracted to aliens?

I truly believe it is the mysterious unknown of the aliens that I want to understand more closely that attracts me to them. Has it always been like this? In a way it has.

I see the relationship between humanity and humans as a romantic love story that I would be part of if that was about to happen. Who knows perhaps it is already happening. Whether you believe in aliens or not they most definitely are around in Second Life. I must give some credit to Grum (I relentlessly called him an alien until he told me to stop years later), who totally showed me the SCI-FI possibilities here in SL and I like the idea of exploring places in Second Life that are somewhat based on those themes.

Perhaps that is what attracts me to all of this even more because here I can actually meet an alien or shop for clothing that comes from different worlds.

All of this alien news raises a lot of questions. Have aliens visited Earth before? How much does the government know, and what is it keeping from us? Are the aliens friendly, or are they coming to harvest all of our spleens for rocket fuel? And most importantly: Are they hot? Just some silly questions that go through my mind when I cannot sleep or when I wander around Second Life in search of aliens.

I could even go into more details about aliens like how would we kiss? Is kissing even hot to them, or are they all about — I don’t know — pressing foreheads together, or docking belly buttons? Also, what if a hot alien and I try to kiss, and they start sucking on my elbow and I’m like, Oh, uh, that’s not it, and they get really embarrassed and are like, Haha, yeah, I know, I was just kidding, and then we kiss normally, mouth tentacle–to–mouth, but we can never get the spark back? Oops, I got totally off subject here, lol.

What if I fall in love with this one hot alien, and everything is going great, but then we throw a dinner party and the hot alien’s other hot alien friend shows up, and I also fall in love with them, and then I don’t know whether I should listen to my heart and run off with this second hot alien, or stay and honor the beautiful life I built with the first alien?

What then? I need serious help here! Anyone?

"Wie einst Lili Marleen"

"You are standing there, like Lili Marleen."

He said when he saw me. If you are not familiar with Lili Marleen it came from a poem and later a song that was made famous by Marlene Dietrich.

The words were written in 1915 as a poem of three verses by Hans Leip (1893–1983), a school teacher from Hamburg who had been conscripted into the Imperial German Army. Leip reportedly combined the nickname of his friend's girlfriend, Lili, with the name of another friend, Marleen, who was a nurse. The poem was later published in 1937 as "Das Lied eines jungen Soldaten auf der Wacht" ("The Song of a Young Soldier on Watch"), with two further verses added.

It was set to music by Norbert Schultze in 1938 and recorded by Lale Andersen for the first time in 1939. In early 1942 she recorded the song in English, the lyrics translated by Norman Baillie-Stewart, a turncoat former British army officer working for German propaganda.

Ocho Tango is a land dedicated to tango, with a milonga for dancing and live concerts. It has become a point of reference for all lovers of Tango Argentino.
If you never been here, you should go and take a look. Besides the beautiful Latin nostalgic music, you can dance, take pictures, and admire the art.

My favorite is to dance in the high grass while hearing the music play. In the background the train ready to leave to some faraway destination.

After you’ve taken out the trash, you can devote your time to the people who really care about you.

I have an ex-friend that I will probably never speak to again — not because I’m a grudge-holder — but because he has shown himself to be unworthy of my friendship. I am not going to put up with a bully in RL and most definitely in SL.

A person like that is most likely a lonely narcissist, who gets his power by pushing people around. I am not gonna let some chimpanzee run the show here. Nope. Oh yes, they never admit they did something wrong and will say it was all a joke. The joke stops here. And the friends of a fool like that who laugh with him when he abuses others are just as guilty.

What I love about SL is that you can just mute them and eject them and ban them. If it only was that easy in RL. To clear his name and fool himself into thinking that he never did anything wrong, he’ll shift all the blame onto you. He’ll come up with the most unreasonable and pathetic excuses so as to make you feel and look responsible for your failed relationship.

He’ll do his best to make you feel guilty for all the problems and difficulties you had in the relationship and take full responsibility for the breakup.

Think about it. Once you have thrown something in the garbage you do not go back and look for it. This feels good.
Free at last.

SL 18B : Exploring Backdrops

Go inside Art!!!

Ginger Lorakeet and her Inside Art are back once again here at the SL 18B exhibits. I have been a fan of hers for many years. It makes for some stunning pictures for all of us photographers in Second Life
.

Simba, the circle of life!
A tribute to wildlife and especially the Lion King beautifully set up for picture taking. I felt like I was part of  Simba's life. I love this as a backdrop very much. People have such talents to create things.

An underwater aquarium to educate you about sharks in the oceans. You can learn stuff every day here in second life, all you have to do is look around.

For me, that is important as a teacher.

I found some amazing live performers here at the SL 18B. Not only did they play their music they also dressed up in some fabulous avatars.

Underwater aquarium

The main stage unlike anything you have ever seen is a must to go and visit, even if you do not like to listen to the live performers. Go see the stage!

Live performers at the Main Stage

There are also plenty of gardens and woods to fulfill your fantasy dreams.

We don't create a fantasy world to escape reality. We create it to be able to stay. There is the real world and the fantasy world. Both are real in many ways because fantasy is created by us. And we are real so that makes the fantasy world real as well.

I had tons of fun exploring and this was just a fraction of what is there.
I hope you go and visit the exhibits, the performers, the DJs very soon before it is all gone.

Gardens in the fantasy Realm

Happy Birthday, Second Life!!!

SL18B - At the DJ Stage

DJ Dandy and DJ Likka from the Basement Club both had their performances at the super cool DJ stage in Second Life. Wow!!! What an amazing stage.

There was an inflow of many avatars and you could tell they really were enjoying not only the scenery but the music. So many happy people here to celebrate 18 years of Second Life.

This has been our 3rd year representing the Basement Club at the Birthday Event. It is always an honor to participate in this. The events are also a nice place to meet people from all over the world. I met some from Russia who were here and can you believe it someone who is from my hometown of Frankfurt, Germany.
I am always amazed how the world can come together like this in one place.
Thank you Second Life for a8 years of fun, laughter, creativity, and making new friends.

SOBE - South Beach

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow:
You are not wrong who deem
That my days have been a dream;

Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand--
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep--while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
~Edgar Allan Poe

Actually, in that dream of a dream, I was visiting Sobe- South Beach, which depicts Miami's iconic, pastel, and bold Art Deco buildings on Ocean Drive.

It is worth a trip and a beautiful place to take those vacation photographs. Summer is here and the beaches are calling you. Go check it out today!

Oh darn! And then his wife shows up and I better scan my camera to something else. Just my luck as always.

SL18B Exhibit: "Ablyss' - Manx Wharton and Zinnia Zauber"

"Gray clouds are a prism. ablyss is an immersive art installation in which users experience a range of the 'seen and unseen' in the tension between the 'dread' of the mundane and the 'joy' of discovery."

It was a super cool party amongst the rainbow colors and 80s music by DJ Vivi. It kind of has that psychedelic feeling. I even run into some Basement Dwellers here which was super fun. I plan on visiting a few other installations this year because last year I did not have the time to do so because I was tending my own.

Come and check it out if you missed it and dance in the rainbow of colors. The colors in the rainbow can bring out a number of emotions but putting them all together creates a mood of peace and happiness.

For instance, the color Red is used in almost every culture to designate warning or danger while also representing love and passion. It is also the first color in the rainbow. Orange represents creativity, joy, vibrancy, happiness, playfulness, and youth. At the same time, it is also a powerful color.

Yellow is naturally associated with the sun and its life-giving energy, though in a less intense way than orange or red. Green, being the color of both money and nature may seem to be a bit of a conflicting color also, but remember, we colored money green!

The color Blue invokes a spiritual sentiment. It is non-threatening and depicts security, trust, compassion, stability, patience, and mysticism. Blue is the color of distance and represents the sky, the oceans, and the heavens.

The color Indigo implies infinity, mysticism, spiritual attainment, and heavenly grace and is in fact the least well-known of all the colors of the rainbow. Violet, it is a royal color signifying nobility. Purple robes were worn by royalty and people of authority or high rank.

Randomness stalks us every day of our lives.

Sometimes you have to do something completely random. Of course, being random might not come in handy when you are talking to people and you all of a sudden say: "caterpillar" because that was in your mind at the moment. It may come across as being known as a weirdo. Well, that's ok if people don't understand my random thoughts of things. Not everything has to have its place.

Through my search of places to visit in Second Life, I stumbled upon Cloven Forest. This is a calm and quiet place to maybe help you with your random thoughts if they don't turn themselves off.

It is a magical place for photography of the mystical forest. You will find many spots here to take a few snapshots or better yet dress for the occasion and you have a natural backdrop of random trees and landscaping.

Life is a series of random collisions and when it is all finished you will discover it was never random.

Randomness is the quality of having no apparent order. If you want a really good password that no one can hack, you want a lot of randomness in it — no numbers or words that clearly pertain to your life.

So, be random and visit a new place you have never been to and take some random snapshots. Oh wait, now it is planned and may not is random anymore.

Like I said before: "Caterpillar."

Humility is sweeter than honey

"I’m writing a book on how to stay conscious when you drown and if the words float up to the surface I’ll keep them down. This is the first time I know I don’t want the crown you can take it now."

Sometimes I wish that Second Life would have been around much longer than it is now. I know I would have met him here and we would have danced in the field of daisies like we did when I was in Texas.

Today (June 13) on the Feast Day of St. Anthony of Padua I remember you and all the poems we wrote together. The adventures of the angel and the fisherman who were guided by our imagination that actually became true.

A mid-afternoon dance in the sun
a way to begin the hundred hours
for the Fisherman and the Angel's fun
had been predestined by great powers!

The internet was still very new and email was the way we would communicate. But oh, just think of the fun we would have had if Second Life was around at that time. We could have built that world of Shamrock Hill.

He thought, if only he would have told her to stay and accepted her heavenly love it would have never happened this way as he looked to the Heavens, he saw a white dove.

The dove sat down on the icy pond and chirped in a human voice, " I grant thee one wish, for of thee I am fond." And now the Fisherman was faced with a choice.

St. Anthony himself said: The spirit of humility is sweeter than honey, and those who nourish themselves with this honey produce sweet fruit. So here is my advice if you lost something maybe Anthony can help. I am not a religious person but I do believe his powers have helped me many times to find something that I could not locate. (Make a note: ask St. Anthony to help you find stuff in your inventory.)

Muddle

Like confetti scattered around
in my mind of confusion
exploiting my most intangible
thoughts about life and romance.
I obliterate any vague chance
of knights pursuing my existence,
trying to express fond endearments
in their quest of convincing me
to surrender my delicate heart.
~anjelikka

One of my favorite places at the Retreat is the cemetery. I like the quiet and peaceful setting
that reminds me of my German childhood. Many times when my mind is in utter muddle I come here and try to sort things out. What I love about Second Life that you can create an area that can be a spot where you can come to and forget about everything. A complete representation of a physical realm and so much more can be found here.
Almost 10 years ago when I first logged in with my account I knew that I found a place that is always here when I need it...and it is.

We are so lucky in this age and time to have this form of communication and exploration to a never-finished world and that is forever changing. I do like the idea that some things stay the same in Second Life, like my cemetery. The only thing that changes here is the seasons just like in the real world.

You can only do what you’re capable of at the time.

When a man falls in your pool out of the sky, what would you do? Rescue him or let him drown?

Of course, you try to help out. Right? But then I think of the last one that fell in there and what I had to find out as he said to me:

Well I'm tired of hanging around
I want somebody new
I'm not sure who I've got in mind
But I know
That it's not you.

And I said: You ask me questions
That I never wanted to hear I am the only one just until you finish this year.
Here is my hand and you just laugh
'cause you don't understand. And now something, something holds me, holds me hypnotized.
It was only yesterday waving arms across the street. Your gray face left me blue. How can I say all the things I have to say to you? Oh, all the people here all look the same the little time I spend with you.

And now there is this man who needs my help and is saved from the wrath of the unmistaken confusion of what the world is. Do I save him or do I just let him drown? My hope is that I have the strength to save a soul because you let me drown and never looked back. I don't know whether you can look at your past and find, woven like the hidden symbols on a treasure map, the path that will point to your final destination. But I will find it.

There is a scar, but you do not see it.

I feel like I'm straddling a timeline where the past is pulling me in one direction and the present another. I see flashes of images and noises burst through, fear comes out of nowhere. My heart races, my breathing is loud and I no longer know where I am.

Sometimes people insist on playing AC/DC in the club for me because I had expressed that I do not like them and I do not want to hear them. It is not that I dislike the band, it is what triggers me from the past. I wonder why people get joy from this. You would not reopen a scar just for the fun of it? You let it heal and yes it reminds you, but you never reopen it.
PTSD is kind of like that. There is a scar, but you do not see it.

You fight every moment to protect that scar so it will not reopen and that can be very exhausting. It makes me weak and I doubt myself every time and I hear the laughter from a distance. In a therapy session, I was once asked what I like people to know about me and I responded that deep inside there is me, and "me" is really a beautiful person and she likes people to know that this scar does not go away, but it can heal and she is trying to heal and needs people to be understanding.

When I take pictures in Second Life it helps me calm myself and it gives me a sense of safety. I am then in my avoidance place and do not have to deal with people who do not know and sometimes do not care.

I can surround myself with beautiful things and later look at the pictures that I have taken and see that "me" and how creative the experience was.

Keeping this visual blog (journal) helps me look back on how I deal with emotions and what the triggers are and how I can avoid them. Each person deals with the fight/flight responses differently and that is ok. I am grateful to Second Life to have a place to go and to find some peace along the way.

And for those who want to continue to play AC/DC go ahead but know this if you do know me, that music was played as I was being choked and beaten and whimpered for help.

Do unicorns exist?

I suppose we can question the existence of the unicorn. Unicorns are real creatures and they have once existed. There are a lot of facts and research going around that has proven that unicorns did actually exist. Fossil remains have been found. Some people have seen it on a few occasions. And Scotland as a country has always had the unicorn as their national animal and also used it to build statues, create signs, and used as symbols.

National animals are representations of the spirit of a country. For instance, America has an eagle which is a symbol of freedom. Italy has a wolf which is an emblem of pack-like solidarity. Nigeria has horses that signify dignity. And many other countries have their various anima. England has a lion which is an illustration of strength. However, Scotland’s national animal is a little different. They chose an incredibly popular animal that some people are still arguing its existence – the unicorn.

Whether you believe in magic or not, it does not hurt to have some fantasy within you.
Unicorns symbolize purity and innocence. They haven't done anything and they are as pure as a baby. They simply wander with their own beauty and grace.

Believing gives us some sense of hope for something better and more peaceful and in today's world, we need this.

Why are unicorns so popular nowadays and why should you like them?

It's an age-old question, but it might be that the unicorn has become popular again because they're so rare. As a symbol of rarity and purity, there are many reasons to love them! In today’s society where everything is fake or tries to be something they are not, we need something new and refreshing - unicorns give us hope for what could come next.

Here in Second Life we can actually see the unicorn and interact with unicorns. Have you ever ridden on a unicorn? Here you can, just like magic. So believe in it because it does exist and anything is possible when you come here.

Still skeptical? For those of you who believe in God, the unicorn has been mentioned many times in the bible.

Psalms 22:21: “Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.”
Happy Unicorn dreams :)

Loss of an illusion?

Frequently, we develop in our minds the way we think things "should" be. However, reality doesn't always correspond with the demands that we put on life, ourselves, and others. Therefore, sometimes we are hurt when we have to face this reality.

I like the fact that in Second Life you can create some illusion and for the most part you are the captain of this ship. Say what you mean and mean what you say counts here as much as it does in Real Life. Or at least it should.

I am disabled by fears, concerning which course to take. For now, those wheels are turning.
I find my faith deserting me.
And we'll dance through our isolation s
eeking solace in the wisdom we bestow. Turning thoughts to the here and ever after consuming fears in our fiery halos.

You taught me patience was a virtue. I took my time, let nature take her cause all was revealed all in good time.

For now, I will hold on to the illusion, it is not lost. It is my illusion and I will create something new and more.
